“Thief” just dropped in anticipation of Green’s forthcoming EP, ‘Outrunning the Animal, slated to release on October 30th on vinyl and streaming.
New York, NY (September 8, 2023) - NYC-based singer-songwriter Emily Nicole Green drops new single, “Thief” on Friday, September 8 and you might have to pull over if you’re listening to this one while driving. This track is, in many ways, the most raw and revealing of the 5-songs on Green’s upcoming debut EP, ‘Outrunning The Animal,’ both musically and in terms of letting listeners feel her ache. “Thief” is an Americana ballad that calls on elements of Jazz, Folk, and Pop, resulting in a track that feels timeless and emotionally stirring.
“Thief” is a song about being abandoned or rejected in some way by someone you love. It’s an invitation to stop abandoning ourselves in response. It’s also about realizing two opposing truths can co-exist in the same person. It’s about creating space for what actually happened alongside how you hoped things would have gone.
‘Thief’ explores the process of acknowledging and validating the pain that we experience, while also looking at how our own responses to situations may have led us to doing additional damage to ourselves. It’s about understanding the impact that these people who have hurt us have had on us and not shying away from naming their impact on us. At the same time, it’s about no longer making a three-dimensional human into a one-dimensional villain, it’s about admitting the complexities and making room for them.”

NYC-based singer-songwriter, Emily Nicole Green shines a light into the depths of her own emotional interiority with her lyrics and her sound. Her vulnerable writing, powerful vocal, and skillful vibrato work together to offer listeners immediate emotional resonance and stirring storytelling that stays with them long after her songs end.
Green has been writing and performing her original songs since she was a freshman in high school. At 17, she began dealing with debilitating anxiety and panic that stopped her from pursuing a career in music for nearly two decades. In 2019, she decided it was now or never and began pouring herself into her music. She posted cover songs on Patreon and a year later landed her first TV spot with a cover of “Greasy Frybread” played over the credits of Season 1, Ep. 4 of FX’s Reservation Dogs.
Green’s songwriting is where she gives herself permission to tell herself her truth, processing her emotions and not judging what they have to say, letting the songs be told by the parts of her that still ache.

Emily Nicole Green’s forthcoming debut EP, ‘Outrunning The Animal,’ is set to be released in October 2023. The EP includes five songs that are grounded in Americana, but lean into other genres such as — pop (“It’s Gonna Be Okay”), country (“Hole In My Heart”), blues and jazz (“Wreckage”), and folk (“Thief”)— depending on the track... In her songwriting for this EP, Green works through grief and rage, rejection and desperation, and the indignities of unrequited love, while testing out the waters of acceptance and hope.
