Houston-based mother-daughter folk duo releases new soulfully inspiring single.
Houston, TX (MAY 5, 2023) - Mother-Daughter duo Cliffs + Caves create inspirational music with a balance of folky, acoustic sounds. In their new single, "Eso Si Que Es," they explore notes of Ben Howard-inspired fingerstyle guitar and delicate layering of powerful harmonies, proving their flexibility as artists and exploratory spirit when it comes to creating new music. This track includes emotionally charged themes such as loss, love, grief, heartache, empathy for loved ones, and more.
The artists describe the aura of this song as soothing and calming. Continuing on about the meaning of this single, Lindsey Justice of Cliffs + Caves remarks,“It’s about letting yourself experience the fullness of whatever life has - whether it’s wonderful or heartbreaking, or both simultaneously.” The song's title is a play on the famous saying “It is what it is,” but with a more hopeful overtone to the sentiment. The lyrics and rhythms of this track convey all of the complex emotions we undergo, and how life itself "is what it is," in a more optimistic light. The song takes inspiration from famous singer-songwriters like Damien Rice, Phoebe Bridgers, and Noah Gundersen.
Both this new release and the upcoming EP were inspired by some time the duo spent in Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons last year soaking up the snow, wildlife, and magic of the mountains. On the way back from the trip, Lindsey received a call relaying that her dear friend was back in the hospital for a difficult cancer treatment. This devastating news was the inspiration for the first few lines of the song, “Life is full of magic things mixed between tragedies. Love is every hug hello and I told you so. I wish I’d known how fast it goes. If we don’t break we must bend at the weight of the world. Just breathe.”
Claire and Lindsey wrote the lyrics to this Eso Si Que Es a few weeks later, reflecting on the ambivalence of life's tragedies and magic moments that form the human experience. This new track acts as a reminder to appreciate moments shared with the people you love, because time itself is one of the most valuable things we have.
