For the first time, Maria collaborated with Corey Kilgannon, a cherished folk artist known for "Slim Margins" and "God Is Just The Universe." His studio, situated on the second floor of Jacksonville's Beaches Vineyard Church, offered a distinctive ambiance that Maria had never experienced in any of her previous recording projects.

The song was recorded through analog technology emphasized the importance of nailing each take perfectly since it would be difficult to redo specific lines or verses. This approach resulted in a 100% pure, unfiltered sound etched directly onto tape, distinct from the typical digital reproduction.

Recording "bluejay" was hardddd since we didn't have a click track, and "bluejay" is naturally a very rhythmic song. We had to rely on the guitars to guide the rhythm instead of a bass or drums, which I think ended up making it that much more romantic.”
