“Never have I been welcomed like I have by the people of Truth or Consequences. Every time I come back here, it feels like I am returning home. I’ve loved singing this song to them around the campfire, and on the stage. And now, it’s for the world.”
- Neil Michael Anderson
With “What’s Your Truth?”, Neil asks the world a penetrating question about the nature of truth, consequences, and love. The song combines the fun and catchy vibe of songs like The Eagles’ “Take It Easy” and Traveling Wilburys’ “End of the Line”, alongside an aggressively optimistic message, reminiscent of John Lennon.

“What’s Your Truth?” is a stand-out single, with its unique blend of hook-laden vocals, rich orchestration, and a wall of harmonies. The lead vocal rises assertively from a backdrop of 12-string guitars, Hammond organs, chimey lead guitar riffs, and a banjo, building to a transcendental finish.
Neil refers to the single as “Classic Americana, crossed with an impressionistic painting”, incorporating touches of orchestral and shoegaze styles. The addictive hooks and layered instrumentation ensure that repeat listeners will discover something new with each play, while the introspective lyrics invite reflection on one’s self and the state of the world.
Written and produced by Neil Michael Anderson, the track was mastered by Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Fleet Foxes). Production primarily occurred in New Mexico, at Taproot Studios in Truth or Consequences, NM, with Rob Stroup (Tony Furtado, Anna Graceman, Kick Stand Up), and some tracking at Shadowscape Records in Kansas City, with Sean Lea and Corey Martin (Folk Alliance International, The Sweet Remains, Sawyer Fredericks, Glad Ghosts).
