The rising Boston-based singer officially released her new track, set to be an anthem for the overthinkers.
Boston, MA (November 17, 2023) - Alaina May, the emerging Indie-Pop singer-songwriter, is set to captivate hearts and minds with her latest release, “Keeps Me Up.” The introspective track dropped on November 17, 2023, and promises to be an anthem for anyone who’s ever spent sleepless nights lost in the labyrinth of their own thoughts.
Alaina May’s music showcases her soulful vocals and evocative lyrics. Her music offers a distinctive glimpse into her individual struggles while also striking a chord with timeless themes like unfulfilled opportunities, unrequited feelings, and self-doubt.
‘Keeps Me Up’ is the product of quite a few sleepless nights spent overthinking and wondering what could’ve been. If you can relate, this song is for you.”
- Alaina May, Indie-Pop Singer
The song’s journey began in September 2022, during Alaina’s sophomore year at Boston University. “Keeps Me Up” isn’t just about a specific person, but also the myriad of worries and anxieties that disrupt our peace, making it relatable to a broad audience. Alaina May poured her emotions into this track, crafting it from a voice memo on her phone and a messy page in her writing notebook.
The song’s sound is best described as acoustic-centric, with clear and dreamy vocals. It’s a genuine singer-songwriter experience, with elements of “bedroom pop” perfect for late-night listening. The minimalist, ambient production allows the powerful lyrics to shine while adding ear candy through vocal drone synths, sparkly synth arpeggios, and harmonies layered over simple acoustic guitar and piano tracks.
Collaborating with longtime friend and producer Nate Blanck (known as “Philia”), Alaina May transformed her acoustic vision into a complete track. The result is a composition they both take pride in, a testament to their creative synergy and commitment to crafting meaningful music.
For fans of Alaina May and newcomers alike, “Keeps Me Up” marks the start of an exciting chapter in her musical journey. Hailing from Lake Country, Wisconsin, and currently a junior studying Business at Boston University, Alaina May’s heartfelt lyrics and melodies promise to resonate deeply with those who appreciate authentic storytelling in music.

"KEEPS ME UP" LYRICS
When I close my eyes
To fall asleep at night
I try my best to clear my mind
But it never works
-
In this dark and quiet room
I try not to thinking about you
And how you smell like her perfume
But I can't help it
-
And oh
Why can't I let go
Of these restless thoughts in my head
All those things I should've said
It keeps me up
It keeps me up
-
Felt too good to be true
I miss when had nothing to lose
If I could run on back to you
I would every time
-
But things don't always go
The way we want them to
So stay in the corner of my mind
Some things are better left behind
-
And oh
Why can't I let go
Of these restless thoughts in my head
All those things I should've said
It keeps me up
It keeps me up
-
When I close my eyes
To fall asleep at night
