The new track "Where I Am Right Now" will be the title song of Orlando Mendez's upcoming EP.
Nashville, TN (July 28, 2023) - Orlando Mendez, aka the “Cuban Cowboy” from Season 22 of NBC's hit show The Voice is dropping a new Country-Rock ballad, “Where I Am Right Now.” This track will be the title song for Mendez's upcoming EP, launch date to be determined. “Where I Am Right Now” will give listeners a taste of what's to come in the EP, with lyrical references to falling in love, heartbreak, being stuck in the past, and echoes of nostalgia that tie into this new EP's intention.
“Where I Am Right Now” was written by Jason Nix, Reid Isbell, and Jessie Alexander. The story told by lyrics and smooth melodies revolves around a man who struggles to let go of a failed relationship and get over the past. This main character finds himself constantly out of touch with his current reality because his mind lives in memories of his ex-lover. The song dives deep into the imagery that is constantly playing in this character's head: the sunset, high tide, dancing with his past lover and staring into her eyes. When the daydream ends, the man finds himself sitting at a bar trying to drown his heartbreak at the bottom of a “poor me round.”
YEAH, YOU OUGHTA HEAR HER LAUGHING
I’M DROWNING IN A FULL MOON FROM AN “I THINK I LOVE YOU”
WHILE I’M SITTING AT A BAR AT THE BOTTOM OF A POOR ME ROUND
~ "Where I Am Right Now" Lyrics ~
This track fuses melodic elements of Country music with Classic Rock instrumentals. A steady kick-drum beat and dreamy chorus carry the storytelling element of this track, conveying the all-consuming feeling of being stuck in a memory. “Where I Am Right Now” continues with a seemingly controlled flow until a gut-wrenchingly raw bridge breaks the pace: “I've tried my best to move on, but your memory doesn't really care. It will find me right where I'm at and take me right back there.”
I truly believe that anyone who listens to this song can relate or at least empathize with the feelings the lyricist is going through. Everyone can conjure up at least one haunting memory from their past that impacted them deeply. I find that connection beautiful and powerful.”
